What actually changes
RAR and 7Z are not the same picture in two wrappers.
The RAR is extracted and repacked with LZMA2. Compression is broadly comparable, sometimes better, and the format is fully open.
Worth knowing first
RAR's recovery records are lost. Those extra blocks let a damaged RAR repair itself, and 7z has no equivalent feature, so an archive kept for resilience on unreliable storage actually loses something real in this conversion.
