What actually changes
KEY and PDF are not the same picture in two wrappers.
Each slide is rendered as a fixed page with fonts embedded, which preserves the design exactly rather than approximating it in another editor's object model.
Worth knowing first
PDF is the higher fidelity target here, precisely because it does not try to reconstruct editable objects. If the layout matters more than editability, converting to PDF loses less than converting to PowerPoint.
