Convert PNG to SVG

A logo only exists as a PNG someone exported years ago, and it now has to go on a banner, a vehicle wrap or an embroidery machine.

    What actually changes

PNG and SVG are not the same picture in two wrappers.

This is a trace, not a repackage. The engine finds colour regions and fits Bezier paths around them, producing an SVG that scales to any size. The output is an interpretation of the bitmap, not a recovery of the original artwork.

    Worth knowing first

Photographs trace terribly. Every gradient becomes a stack of hundreds of flat-colour paths, the result looks like a screenprint, and the SVG often ends up larger than the PNG. Trace flat logos and line art; leave photographs as raster.

    Questions

    PNG to SVG, answered

Will the traced logo match the original exactly?

Close, not identical. Anti-aliased pixel edges have to be approximated as curves, so fine serifs and thin strokes shift slightly. Higher source resolution gives a better trace.

Why is my SVG file huge?

Too many colour regions. A noisy or photographic source generates thousands of paths. Reducing the colour count before tracing usually cuts the file by an order of magnitude.

    Can I edit the result?

Yes, it opens as editable paths in Illustrator, Inkscape or Figma. Expect to clean up node clusters along the traced edges.
