What actually changes
PNG and WEBP are not the same picture in two wrappers.
WEBP re-encodes the image, in lossy or lossless mode. Lossless WEBP is typically 25 to 30 percent smaller than the same PNG. Lossy WEBP goes far further and still keeps the alpha channel, which is the trick JPEG cannot do.
Worth knowing first
Lossy WEBP keeps transparency but compresses the colour under it, so a soft drop shadow or a feathered cutout can develop a faint halo against a dark background. Use lossless WEBP for logos and UI assets.

Do all browsers support WEBP now?
Yes, every current browser does, including Safari since version 14. The gaps are outside the browser, in desktop apps and older image libraries.
Lossy or lossless WEBP for a logo?
Lossless. Logos are flat colour with hard edges, exactly the content lossy codecs handle worst, and lossless WEBP still beats PNG on size.
