Slides have to become images for a website, a social post, a video edit or a system that will not embed a deck.
Each slide is rendered at a chosen resolution and encoded as JPEG. Text becomes pixels and stops being selectable or editable.
Slides are mostly flat colour and text, which is the content JPEG handles worst. Fine type picks up visible ringing along its edges, and PNG produces a sharper and often smaller file for the same slide.
At least 1920 pixels wide for a 16:9 deck, more if the images are going into a video edit.
For anything text-heavy, yes. JPEG only wins on slides dominated by photographs.

JPEG Image is lossy, so the quality control decides the trade between size and fidelity.
