    What actually changes

PSD and PDF are not the same picture in two wrappers.

The composite is rendered and placed on a PDF page matching the document's canvas dimensions. The PDF's page size follows the PSD's physical size, so a document set up at 300 DPI produces sensible print dimensions.

    Worth knowing first

Text in the PSD becomes pixels, not text. A Photoshop file with live type produces a PDF nobody can search, select or reflow, and small text printed from it can look softer than it did on screen.

    Questions

    PSD to PDF, answered

Will the print size be right?

It follows the PSD's own resolution setting. A canvas set at 72 DPI produces a very large, very low resolution page.

Is this good enough for a print shop?

For proofs, yes. For production, they usually want CMYK with bleed and crop marks, which is an InDesign or Illustrator export rather than a straight PSD conversion.
