What actually changes
WPD and DOCX are not the same picture in two wrappers.
The WordPerfect structure is parsed and mapped onto Word's document model. Text, basic formatting and tables come across into a file any modern word processor reads.
Worth knowing first
WordPerfect's reveal codes model is genuinely different from Word's. Formatting was applied as a stream of codes rather than as properties on ranges, so complex legal documents with heavy inline formatting and automatic paragraph numbering need checking clause by clause.
